"Twinkle Twinkle"

Jack was singing "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" this morning. It was so cute. He had several words and the tune down pretty well. I wish I had gotten it on video, but I was afraid he would stop if I brought out the camera.

We also learned Jack does not like band-aids. He got a cut on his finger last night and it was bleeding quite a bit. He let me put the band-aid on, but immediately tried taking it off. He cried and tried to rub it off. He even put it in his mouth to try to scrape it off with his teeth. Mike thought it might help if we had Mickey Mouse band-aids, so I drew a Mickey Mouse on it. It helped a little, but he kept crying and yelling and trying to get it off until I distracted him by reading several books.

Cars and a Mess

On Saturday, Jack picked up the Cars DVD case, put his toy Lighting McQueen car inside it, put the case back on the shelf, and said, "Cars." What a silly, clever boy.

Lately Jack has been getting out movies and PS3 games and spreading them out all over the floor. I picked them up at least 5 times Saturday before I resigned to the fact that they were just going to be all over the place as long as Jack was awake.
Yes, that is Toy Story 3 playing on the TV behind him.
One of Mike's friends said, "Cleaning up after kids is like shoveling while it's still snowing." I couldn't agree more.

Grocery Shopping...

I just want to write about how awesome it is that Mike has been into doing the grocery shopping, menu planning, and cooking lately. We actually eat real food at home now. It's so cool!
He's much better at all of that than I am. Even when he was sick a couple weeks ago and I had to make dinner, I knew just what to make because he had planned it out and we had all the ingredients. Jack and I were able to have a really nice meal.
I know he doesn't like going to Wal-Mart any more than I do. I think the thing he enjoys about it is it's one way he can show us he loves us. So I just wanted to say, "Thanks, Mike."

Worst...Morning...Ever

Worst. Morning. Ever. Okay, maybe that is an exaggeration, but at the time it sure felt like it. It was one of those morning when I hate being a working mom. Jack woke up ornery at 5:30. I had to shower, so he had to be in the bathroom with me since Mike was still in bed and I don't want Jack being alone that long when I can't hear him. He needed a bath anyway, so I thought I'd put him in the shower with me. He was not in the showering mood. He screamed during most of the shower unless I was holding him up so he could catch the water in his mouth and spit it all over. Mike was not happy about his morning sleep being interrupted by a screaming toddler.
After our shower I did one smart thing and decided not to get Jack dressed until after he ate breakfast.
Since our shower took longer than I had planned, I was running a little behind schedule getting ready for work, so I was in a hurry. I made Jack oatmeal, his favorite food lately, and took it downstairs for him to eat. Then I went upstairs to do my hair. About 10 minutes later, I heard Jack yelling. I yelled back, "What is it, Jack?" He yelled, "Wash," as he was coming up the stairs. I went to get him and saw he was covered from head to toe in oatmeal. Back in the shower he went. I was so glad I hadn't gotten him dressed.
After he was clean, re-diapered, and dressed, I went downstairs to get my clothes out of the dryer. Then I saw this:
Oatmeal everywhere!
I did not have time to clean this up. It was time to leave for work in five minutes and I still wasn't ready. I  scooped up the big chunks with Jack's spoon and then wiped up what I could with a towel and figured I would just have to leave the mess until after work when it would be even more difficult to clean. I was on the verge of being a little hysterical. (I hate running late.) By this time Mike was up and getting ready for work. He decided it was worth being a little late to clean it up now, so he washed the couch. (Thank goodness for leather.)
Then, to top it off, while I was doing my make-up I dropped my mascara brush on my shirt and had to change clothes. I just started crying. Could this morning get any worse?
I didn't have time to make breakfast, so I ate a chocolate-covered granola bar on the car ride to work and I don't know if Mike ate breakfast at all.
I wanted to call in to work and say, "I am having a terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad day and won't be coming because I'm going back to bed."
I guess we all have days like that.

20 Months Old

  • Jack wears size 2T/24 month clothes now and size 5 shoes. I just put all his 18 month clothes in storage yesterday because he is just too tall for them. He still wears size 4 diapers. His favorite clothes are his Curious George jacket, buzz shirt, super hero shirt, buzz pajamas, his train shoes and his boots. He also likes to wear lamp shades as hats.
  • Jack is nearing 2 years old and it is starting to show. He has been going through a naughty phase lately. When he gets mad, he tries to hit or throws his head around. He has given me a couple of nose bleeds. When we tell him "no," he does it just because we told him not to. He throws a fit before doing almost anything; even things he likes such as bath-time. This morning he threw a fit because I took his poopy diaper out to the garbage. For some reason he decided he really wanted that yucky diaper. He even tried to make a new poop in his clean diaper.
  • One of Jack's favorite foods is oatmeal. He wants to eat it for breakfast almost every morning.
  • Jack likes to watch lots of different shows. Some of his favorites are Toy Story, Dumbo, Hulk, Spider-man, Pocoyo, Monsters Inc., Nightmare Before Christmas (aka Jack), Curious George, and Family Guy. He can identify most of his favorite movies from the side of the DVD case.
  • His favorite toys lately are his Toy Story tent, my iPad, cars, Buzz, and his little piano when we hook it up to the TV so he can dance.
  • Jack loves to go outside. This mild winter has been nice for him. He learned to enjoy the snow this month.
  • Getting him to sleep is still a struggle. He hates nap time. When we put him in his bed he cries. Sometimes he stands up and throws his bears and blankets out or turns on the light. He has a little bear he sleeps with and is really good at snuggling with it (usually). We also have to sit close by until he falls asleep.
  • He knows many colors and can both name them and find them when asked. He knows yellow, pink, and orange the best. He also knows blue, green, red, purple, black, and white. He still struggles with the names of grey and brown.
  • He is able to match shapes and is good at puzzles.
  • We're working on getting him to say two-word phrases more often. He says them on his own every now and then.
  • Grandpa Davis says Jack is getting more fun because he will sit on Grandpa's lap and play with the iPad instead of wanting Grandma all the time.
  • Jack got a new cousin this month. He seems to kind of like babies, but is mostly indifferent. He has realized that he is older than his baby cousins.
  • He also thinks he is too old for bibs and won't sit in his highchair anymore.

St. George Trip

Mike had UMEA February 3rd and 4th, so I took a day off work and we all went to St. George for a mini vacation. The hotel had an indoor pool and a little playground Jack liked.
Saturday morning, we went to play on the playground. Jack liked the swings. Although, his face doesn't show it.

After swinging, Jack wanted to throw rocks.

Jack likes having Mickey Mouse on his back.

Jack also liked climbing. He did a pretty good job of doing it all by himself.

I love this picture!

Jack wanted to go swimming, but Mike wanted to take him when he got back from UMEA for the day. I had to distract Jack for awhile since he wanted to go swimming right away. While walking around the hotel, we found the foosball table. He liked moving the poles around.

It was nice to get to have a mini vacation. It was no Disneyland, but it was fun to be with my boys, go swimming, and just play outside. Jack did really well traveling. On the way home, we decided to take him with us when we go to Disneyland for spring break.

Baby William

On Saturday, January 29th some of my family, Jack, and I went to visit William, Lisa, and new baby William in Salt Lake. It was so fun to get to hold a tiny baby. Will and Lisa are such cute parents.
Uncle Benjamin with William

Sleeping cousins. William seems so tiny! I can't believe Jack used to be about that size.
